1. Introduction

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MRM) Business Award, a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives, was initiated in 2005 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to recognize and celebrate the success of organisations that contribute to the sustainable economic development of the UAE and the greater GCC region.

The Award, which is the highest level of recognition of business excellence that an organization can achieve in the region, is supported by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award Program; an intensive qualification initiative for GCC businesses aiming to implement cutting edge international business best practices to boost performance, with the ultimate goal of providing a robust learning platform to nurture organizations into leading players in the global market.

The program, which advocates the improvement of business strategies, processes and overall performance, has been the fundamental structure of Dubai Chamber’s quest to foster excellence within business communities throughout the UAE and GCC region.

  • Becoming prominent active players in the international business arena.

And ultimately to:

  • Promote business excellence and knowledge sharing across the GCC.
  • Contribute to a solid and sustainable growth of GCC economies.
  • Elevate the regions business reputation worldwide.

3. Benefits of Participation

  • An organisational learning experience through self-analysis and by comparing performance against best-in-class business practices.
  • An independent, objective assessment from an international team of experienced assessors.
  • Receive a comprehensive Feedback Report outlining key strengths and areas of improvement for each of the nine key areas of the Model, enabling organisations to document achievements and plan progress.
  • International recognition in performance excellence and an opportunity to celebrate and showcase achievements.
  • Set the foundations to become strong players in the regional and international business arena.

4. The Model Framework

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Performance Model is a framework that is both flexible and industry generic, and provides a systematic perspective for managing the organization to achieve performance excellence. The framework is important as a unifying mechanism to facilitate progress and assist with organizational learning.

The Business Performance Model is based on the principle that for an organization to succeed there is a number of key business enablers on which it should concentrate to achieve competitiveness by reaching goals whose success is measured in the Results.

The Model looks at Strategy and Leadership at its core. In addition, it looks at Innovation, Governance, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Customer, Workforce & Talent Management and Operations & Processes and Financial & Marketplace. All of these areas are intertwined or relate in some way to each other and are impacted by the business context which is unique to each company and industry.

The Business Context provides a valuable information about the Organization and the context within which it operates. Taken together, the business context along with each of the enabler’s impact the results areas. For example, if a company faces an inflationary business context, it would impact its pricing strategy which if it doesn’t get right, there could be a gap in its forecasted financial results.

5. The Learning Module

International Conference
The International Conference is the starting point for every new cycle of the MRM Business Award and provides an effective platform to engage GCC professionals and business leaders to underpin their organisational strategies in adopting global progressive business best practices.

A learning gateway for the business community, the International Conference brings together prominent leaders of business excellence models, previous winners of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award as well as renowned GCC and international business executives to promote first-in-class business practices and create an environment for learning.

The International Conference enables entities to learn and benchmark their organisations against local and international outperformers in order to attain measurable benefits that lead to business performance excellence.

Best-Practice Seminars
In support of the Award Program, a series of Best-Practice Seminars are organized and dedicated to educating the GCC business community on leading international business practices.

Furthermore, participant companies competing for the Award are also instructed on how to prepare a comprehensive Award Application document which will raise the chances to become winners of the prestigious Award.

Roundtable Discussions
The Roundtable Discussions are exclusively held for the companies who are applying for the Award and aim to provide the opportunity to improve the quality of the Award Application document.
