We Are The Champions: Winners Declared For The 3rd Dubai Smartpreneur Competition
A hectic round of pitching sessions by the top 10 finalists during ArabNet Digital Summit on Tuesday culminated in the emergence of three top startup winners of the 2018 Dubai Smartpreneur Competition.
A challenge organized by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dubai Startup Hub, and Smart Dubai, this year’s Dubai Smartpreneur challenge received over 300 ideas in its third edition this year, spanning across three categories of blockchain, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation.
The annual flagship competition gives UAE’s startups and entrepreneurs an opportunity to play a key role in the Dubai Government’s strategy “to elevate the city into a global platform for innovation-focused businesses.”
WakeCap Technologies, an enterprise working on a safety and tracking device for construction workers in real-time basis won the first prize for its impactful product; Intuito, a startup leveraging AI to solve both local and global mobility challenges bagged the second place, and the third place went to Teledoc, a UAE-based telemedicine platform that again makes use of artificial intelligence to deliver efficient healthcare services.
Welcoming the gathering at the finals, H.E. Hisham Abdullah Al Shirawi, 2nd Vice Chairman at Dubai Chamber, was all praise for the finalists and participants of the competition, and also thanked the expert jury panel, which included Abdur-Rahim Syed, Partner, McKinsey & Company, Pawel Iwanov, Managing Director, Mountain Partners, and Dr. Marwan Alzarouni, CEO, OTC Supply DMCC.
“We could not have been more impressed with the high volume of impressive business ideas related to blockchain, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation, which were submitted and presented over the last few months,” Al Shirawi said. “These unique concepts greatly support Dubai’s Smart City vision, while they are also a reflection of the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of Dubai’s business community.”
AED150,000 in combined cash prizes went to the three winners, and they also enjoy access to training, support, and participation opportunities in other entrepreneurship development programs and initiatives of Dubai Startup Hub- Dubai Chamber’s center for all things startup and entrepreneurship.
